Project Details
Spatio-temporal monitoring of fen peatland subsidence and inundated area across different scales (B06)
Subject Area
Geodesy, Photogrammetry, Remote Sensing, Geoinformatics, Cartography
Term
since 2025
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 531801029
We will deepen the spatio-temporal knowledge of rewetted fen peat and corresponding processes observed by remote sensing techniques quantifying mire breathing and inundated area decrease over space and time in rewetting fen peatlands. We will link innovative techniques such as SBAS interferometry to peat development as well as C sequestration. The applied techniques of observing spatio-temporal patterns of peat surface characteristics enable us to assess the resilience and vulnerability of peatlands to droughts and floods.
