The previous 400 MHz spectrometer of the central RUBiospek|NMR service department in the Faculty of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the Ruhr University Bochum had been in use since 1984. This technology is not officially supported anymore. Recently, spare parts have hardly been available. Over the past 22 years, our faculty's 400 MHz spectrometer has always been utilized at least 95% per year. Due to technical faults, this spectrometer was finally decommissioned earlier this year by discharging the cryomagnet in a controlled manner with concurrent helium recovery. Due to high demand and in order to guarantee smooth measurement operation by RUBiospek|NMR, a replacement NMR spectrometer is now urgently required. We are therefore applying for a new three-channel 500 MHz NMR spectrometer including a sample changer with up to 60 positions. This will be of great benefit to all users of RUBiospek|NMR for (at least) the next decade, especially due to the extended measurement possibilities. This will enable RUBiospek|NMR to continuously and reliably offer all modern NMR experiments and recording techniques to our users, including multi-channel tranceiver technology, in particular diffusion and relaxation measurements at an additional magnetic field strength of 11.75 Tesla hitherto not available in Bochum.
