The sub-project consists of two work areas. AB I The Dissolution of the Boundaries of the Vulgar. The establishment of high-low axiology in the long 19th century is supervised by the PI and deals with the phenomenon of the vulgar under the auspices of aesthetic and discourse history over the period of the long 19th century. AB II Hedwig Dohm. The Emancipation of the Low and Vulgar is being worked on by a doctoral student and focuses on the problematisation and functionalisation of the vulgar in the decades around 1900 in the feuilletonistic and literary work of the (proto-)feminist and women’s rights activist Hedwig Dohm.
