Impact of Metaflammation on hepatic macrophage function in tissue regeneration (P10)

Subject Area Immunology
Gastroenterology
Term since 2021
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 432325352

Obesity is a risk factor for drug-induced liver injuries (DILI) and poor liver regeneration. Liver-resident macrophages (Kupffer Cells, KCs) play a significant role in liver regeneration as their depletion suppresses liver regeneration and increases mortality. This project aims to unravel the metaflammation-induced cellular and molecular mechanisms that are responsible for the transcriptional reprogramming of hepatic macrophages and their precursors, which result in altered KC reconstitution and functional dysregulation during liver regeneration after acute liver injury or surgical resection.
