Project B01 aims at the synthesis and characterization of high-surface metal oxide supports (CeO2, Al2O3, TiO2) as i.e. hollow nanospheres and nanosponges with high surface are and porosity. Dopants will be applied to obtain and to maintain preciousmetal nanoparticles (Pt, Pd, Rh, Ru) with optimal size for highest catalytic activity also under transient reaction conditions. Electron microscopy and electron spectroscopy (e.g. electron energy loss spectroscopy, tomography, pair-distribution analysis) will be used to characterize the 2D/3D morphology, the local oxidation state and the metal-support interaction.
