The project investigates Differential Object Marking (DOM) and related morphosyntactic phenomena in Spanish. It will examine (i) specific (sub)classes of the referentiality hierarchy from a diachronic and syn-chronic perspective, (ii) the interaction between DOM and clitic doubling of the direct object - that is, differential object indexing (DOI), and (iii) the dependency of null objects from prominence management in discourse. These three research topics will be explored in both Old Spanish and modern Spanish, taking into account language variation and change.
