Subject Area General and Comparative Linguistics, Experimental Linguistics, Typology, Non-European Languages
Personality Psychology, Clinical and Medical Psychology, Methodology
Term since 2017
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 281511265

The project examines how prosodic and interactional prominence shape communication. To date, interactions between matched pairs of (non-)autistic speakers and (non-)native speakers have been analyzed in addition to clinical interviews with schizophrenic patients. Novel methodologies for analyzing intonation and eye gaze have been developed. In phase III, research will focus on cross-neurotype and cross-cultural communication and feature analyses of multi-dimensional prosodic as well as multi-modal cues and interpersonal rapport. Findings will elucidate the complex interplay of discourse, prosodic, and interactional prominence and will ultimately be used to raise awareness of autistic communication styles.
