Project Details
Transformation of Arctic mixed–phase clouds in cold air outbreaks characterized by airborne and satellite remote sensing (B03)
Subject Area
Atmospheric Science
Term
since 2016
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 268020496
The project studies clouds which form when cold air from the central Arctic is transported towards the South over the warm open ocean. It will be quantified, in which distance to the sea ice edge these clouds have a roll-like structure and when they break up into cellular cloud fields with a lower cloud cover. Airborne and satellite observations will be used to understand if these clouds will warm or cool the Arctic climate in the future
