This application includes the continuation and extension of the digitisation project "German territorial law from 1801 - 1900" at the Berlin State Library which is supported by the German Research Foundation (DFG).The project focuses on a core of the State Library's legal collection, the world's most comprehensive corpus of Iiterature on German territorial law, with a high proportion of rare and unique resources, a volume of about 12,500 volumes and approximately 2.5 million pages. The total volume of this project has been reduced substantially due to an unexpectedly high overlap with holdings of the Bavarian State Library, which are digitised in cooperation with Google. However, a considerable volume of books resp. works for digitisation shall remain. These are numerous journals, government publications and works which are bound into anthology volumes. Criminal law, commercial law and canon law of the German sub-states of that time are linked with the "territorial law", so these holdings are also to be processed within the project. Same as already practised, after image digitisation a first metadata and substructural indexing of the digitised works will follow. OCR processing will be done as soon as the procedure can be integrated into the State Library's digitisation workflow. As 95% of the works are printed in gothic letters, this is not to be expected before 2015. ln combination with other nationally supported digitisation projects, whose images are freely accessible as well, the "territorial law" project will help growing an excellent and comprehensive virtual library of the State Library¿s German legal history sources.
