The project investigates processes of centralization, expansion and disintegration of political and territorial units in the Maya lowlands. The middle-sized city of Uxul is taken as an example to study the impact of the integration of a small political unit in the territory of a large expanding state. Particular attention will be given to the impact of this process on different sectors of the society. This final renewal of the project will investigate the population dynamics of Uxul in the time before the integration into the sphere of influence of Calakmul .
