The Aortic Institute at Yale University has recently identified a distinct "RNA Signature" associated with ascending thoracic aortic aneurysm (ATAA) in affected patients. RNA is a ribonucleic acid, necessary for protein synthesis. This signature encompasses 10 crucial pathways involved in the pathogenesis of ATAA and demonstrates a high degree of accuracy in distinguishing between ATAA patients and normal controls. Additionally, RNA Signatures show promise in being able to distinguishing individuals with heightened risk for aortic aneurysm and subsequent aortic dissection. The discovery of these RNA signatures holds significant potential for advancing aortic care through improved diagnostic and prognostic capabilities. The project aims to expand upon the groundbreaking work previously done at the Aortic Institute on RNA Signatures in patients with ATAAs. We plan to determine the temporal onset and progression of the RNA Signature in the development of ATAA. The goal is to identify the specific stage at which the RNA Signature becomes distinctive, thereby enhancing our understanding of the early detection and progression of ATAA. Our results will help in developing an individualized blood-based test, able to distinguish at-risk patients with ATAA.
