Zusammenfassung der Projektergebnisse

Die Ergebnisse des Projektes haben erneut gezeigt, dass der Hunsrück-Schiefer eine der bedeutendsten Fundstellen für paläozoische Euarthropoden im Hinblick auf ihre Vielfalt und Erhaltungsqualität ist. Darüber hinaus zeigen mehrere der Euarthropoden enge phylogenetische Verbindungen zu ähnlichen Formen, die bislang nur aus dem Kambrium bekannt waren. Dadurch ist es nun möglich die Evolution einiger Euarthropoden über einen Zeitraum von mehr als 100 Millionen Jahren (Kambrium bis Devon) zu verfolgen. Die Untersuchungen an dem Hunsrück-Material haben allerdings auch gezeigt, dass das Potential dieser Fundstelle noch nicht ausgeschöpft ist, da die Diversität, zumindest der Euarthropoden, noch nicht vollständig erfasst ist.
