Project Description

A04 investigates the stiffness gradients between long fibre reinforced thermoplastic bulk material (TBM) and infinite (continuous) fibre reinforced thermoplastics (IFRTP) by grading the IFRTP to create a transition zone between the subcomponents. Two grading approaches are investigated: in-line grading by adapting the braiding process and off-line grading by laser treatment. The IFRTP is then over-moulded by the TBM in the press process. The effect of grading on the transition zone will be investigated by mechanical and non-destructive testing. The results will be incorporated into a data-based model to correlate the processing parameters of the transition zone.
