LC/MS-HRAM Mass Spectrometer
Subject Area
Analytical Chemistry
Term
Funded in 2025
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 553517400
An LC/MS-HRAM mass spectrometer is to be purchase for the high-resolution and precise mass determination of low- to medium-volatility low-molecular and high-molecular polar molecules using liquid chromatography and electrospray ionisation as well as, alternatively, atmospheric pressure chemical ionization for the mass spectrometry equipment centre of the Faculty of Chemistry and Pharmacy in the service area of central analytics. The existing FT-ICR mass spectrometer there is almost 20 years old and therefore no longer state of the art and can no longer cope with the volume of samples within a reasonable period of time due to frequent repair-related failures. Due to a non-repairable leak in the helium cooling system, the associated instability in the measurement and the high ongoing helium costs, we will have to take this device out of operation in the near future. Although there are other LC/MS devices in the faculty, these are firmly integrated into direct research tasks and cannot be used in routine operation on the side. The acquisition of the replacement instrument is intended to ensure that any organic, inorganic, biochemical or pharmaceutically relevant molecule can be analyzed in a timely, high-resolution and precise mass analysis.
