This research project will empirically investigate the history, intellectual origins, political mobilization and digital articulation of conspiracy theories that postulate the "Great Replacement" of European populations by Muslim and migrants . The research project will examine these conspiracy theories in three members of the European Union - Germany, France and the Netherlands - in order to create a novel theoretical framework capable of disentangling the conceptual and historical relationships between population replacement conspiracy theories and racism, as well as the various ways in which gender, sexuality and class are interwoven and used in the crafting of conspiracy theories. Ultimately, this research project aims to create a new, systematic and comprehensive theoretical framework based on an interdisciplinary and international empirical investigation using a multi-methods approach with the aim of explaining the current rise of conspiracy theories about the 'Great Replacement'.
