Novel chiral N- heteropolycycles, in which isosteric insertion of nitrogen atoms shapes electronic wavefunctions without strong perturbations of the underlying chiral molecular structure, provide a special opportunity for investigating chiral structure-property relations in excited electronic state dynamics. Using our expertise in advanced optical spectroscopies, we will study chiral excited state recombination for circularly-polarized luminescence, the photoinduced ring currents for ultrafast switching of magnetic fields, and the ultrafast transport of chiral photoexcited-state populations. Our insights on excited state chirality will have impact for optimizing key functionalities in optoelectronic applications.
