Project Details
Multiscale electron-microscopy characterization of hardening and damage mechanisms (Project B04)
Subject Area
Thermodynamics and Kinetics as well as Properties of Phases and Microstructure of Materials
Term
since 2025
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 278868966
In FP3, B04 will extend the developed damage quantification method to the new materials in focus of the TRR. For lightweight materials, this will require to develop preparation techniques without pore closure. The interaction of damage and local hardening at interfaces will be studied by HR-techniques such as cECCI and TEM. To study the influence of temperature during hot forming, in-situ heating experiments will be carried out in the large chamber SEM. 3D characterization of damage will be performed by serial sectioning of larger volumes using plasma FIB and by tomography using micro-CT. These techniques will be used within a correlative approach to achieve a comprehensive overview of the damage state.
