Project Details
Influencing damage in cold forging (Project A02)
Subject Area
Primary Shaping and Reshaping Technology, Additive Manufacturing
Term
since 2025
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 278868966
Goal of this project is to increase the performance of cold forged components by damage-controlled forming. While knowing the effect of hydrostatic and deviatoric stresses on damage evolution and product performance, the effect of void closure on performance will be investigated. The well-known and new concepts will be transferred from the case-hardening steel 16MnCrS5 to an aluminum alloy and an austenitic stainless steel in warm condition. To also increase the reliability of cold forged components, the effect of damage on uncertainty in product performance will be investigated. A damage-controlled process chain will be demonstrated by the example of pressure vessels.
