The proposed Young Talent Academy (YTA) is intended to provide new impetus for innovative research in the field of forensic medicine and to counteract the increasingly serious lack of successful researchers in this small medical discipline. The topic (“innovation”) is deliberately broad in order to appeal to as many young scientists as possible from all disciplines under the umbrella of forensic medicine (forensic medicine, forensic molecular genetics, forensic toxicology). The main aims of the YTA are to impart skills for the systematic development and elaboration of research projects, to increase the number of funding applications to the DFG, to strengthen innovative research in forensic medicine and to promote interdisciplinary exchange. The focus of the YTA is the structured support of young colleagues by experienced scientists in the development of an innovative research project and the preparation of a funding application. The concept envisages a one-day pre-workshop, the drafting of an application and its assessment, a 5-day academy week and - in light of sustainability - a post-workshop after the DFG has completed the assessment of the submitted applications. If the YTA is successful, it will not only result in DFG-funded projects - the participants will then also be in a much better position to develop their own projects, bring scientific culture to the institutes and, in turn, act as role models there.
