SFB 497:  Signals and Signal Processing during Cellular Differentiation

Subject Area Biology
Medicine
Term from 2000 to 2011
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 5484048

Dysplasia, impaired functions of organs, and malignant tumors can arise from erroneous cellular signaling. The relevant signals, which are sent by certain cells, will induce the genetic reprogramming of other cells. Here, we shall investigate the regulatory mechanisms by which the cells of an organism can mutually influence their differentiation. We shall study the complete chain of communication starting from the signals and their receptors up to cellular signal processing, which ultimately changes a cell's repertoire of active genes.
