This research project addresses the role of interorganizational networks for AI readiness and AI adoption in journalism across two different national contexts—Kenya and Germany. Drawing on an integrative framework of media innovation, we compare macro, meso, and micro factors of AI readiness and adoption through a mixed-methods approach. On the macro level, we explore how technological development, media policies, and regulations shape AI readiness, comparing Ken-ya and Germany. At the meso level, our study delves into interorganizational AI circles, uncover-ing actor constellations in both countries. On the micro level, we observe individual actors, com-munication patterns, and responsible AI literacy within AI circles over time. This project will ad-vance academic understanding and contribute to responsible AI adoption in journalism. The overall goal of the research project is to gain a comprehensive understanding of responsible AI adoption in journalism with implications for innovation theory and the field of responsible AI research. In this regard, we collaborate with Prof. Dr. Nancy Booker (Aga Khan University, Nairobi, Kenya), who is recognized for her expertise in the field of AI and journalism. Hence, this is a Sachbeihilfe application in the DFG area of international collaboration with developing countries.
