Membrane remodelling during the mitochondrial unfolded protein response (P09)

Subject Area Biochemistry
Term since 2024
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 511488495

Project Description

Mitochondrial defects induce a nuclear transcriptional response (mitochondrial unfolded protein response (mtUPR)), leading to an increase in mitochondrial chaperones and proteases, but also resulting in increased levels and remodelling of the mitochondrial signature lipid cardiolipin (CL) and transcriptional changes in lipid biogenesis enzymes. We hypothesize that mitochondrial stress induces global lipid changes and membrane remodelling. We aim to investigate how CL remodelling protects mitochondrial integrity and how mtUPR affects global lipid homeostasis.
