SPP 733:  Gradientenwerkstoffe

Subject Area Materials Science and Engineering
Term from 1995 to 2003
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 5466098

Project Description

The priority programme "Graded Materials" focuses on new means to manufacture graded materials, explores the fundamentals of the mechanical, physical and electrical properties of graded materials and describes new characterization tools for this type of materials class. Gradients between ceramics and metals, metals and metals as well as ceramics and polymers are of special, but not exclusive, interest. The gradients may have lateral extensions between hunderts of microns and millimeters. It can form a transition between coating and bulk material as well as between bulk materials. Typical applications are thermal barrier coatings, biomaterials as well as sensors.
