The role of cold acclimation in C. ohadii physiological and transcriptional responses to extreme light stress (A09*)

Subject Area Plant Physiology
Term since 2024
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 270050988

Exploring photosynthetic active organisms from extreme environments offers a promising approach to understand acclimation processes to single or multiple stress conditions for this goal. In project A09 we will use the desert alga Chlorella ohadii to explore the cellular processes involved in combined cold-EIL (Extreme Illumination Level) accli-mation by studying its physiological (growth, photosynthesis), transcriptional (RNA-Seq) and translational (Ribo-Seq) responses to this dual challenge. Thereafter, we aim at elucidating the acclimation mechanisms involved by testing the roles of identified response modulators in the genetically amenable model alga Chlamydomonas rein-hardtii.
