The ultimate objective target in the field of single molecule magnets (SMM) is, to conceive molecules with a blocking temperature Tb lager than room temperature, since this potentially would allow applications of these systems in e.g molecular storage devices or even quantum computers. A very successful cooperation of our synthetic group with Prof. Dr. P. Müller and Dr. O. Waldmann (Physikalisches Institut III, Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg) guaranties deeper insights into synthesis and theory of SMMs. Concretely, we have to our disposal sufficient synthetic expertise to create new, or tailored oligo/poly/(homo-/hetero metallic)/(homo-/hetero valent) systems, interesting for SMM studies. More precise, objectives we focus on, are cation occupied ferric wheels like six- and eightmembered {Na [Fe6[N(CH2CH2O)3]6]}Cl and {Cs [Fe8[N(CH2CH2O)3]8]}Cl, or unoccupied {Fe6[H3C(CH2)3N(CH2CH2O)2]6}. Another group of clusters of interest are star-shaped homo-/hetero metallic tetranuclear systems like {M[Fe(L)2]3} (M = Fe, Cr, Al; H2L = N-methyldiethanolamine). Furthermore, we also focus on triangular and rectangular home-/hetero metallic, mixed valence species. In the field of coordination polymers, we intend to study oxo-bridged metal strings [{Cs [Ni2(L)3]}Cs]n and a family of 1D-, 2D-, and 3D-coordination polymers.
