Project Description

The project deals with cold Bose gases, in which the conditions for a weak coupling, effective single-particel description are no longer valid. This applies to dilute gases in deep optical lattices as well as to weak lattice or quasihomogeneous situations, where the effective scattering length is of the same order than the average interparticle spacing. It is our aim, to map out the possible phases of such gases and their experimental signatures. In particular we want to determine the quantitative boundaries between superfluid and insulating, crystalline configurations in one-, two- or three-dimensional gases.
