Project Details
Non-coding RNAs regulating cardiac innervation (B11*)
Subject Area
Anatomy and Physiology
Term
since 2023
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 403584255
The sympathetic nervous system tightly regulates cardiac function. Preliminary experiments revealed inflammation and pathological remodeling of heart-innervating sympathetic ganglia during cardiac disease in humans and mice, and effective preservation of cardiac function by local, intraganglionic targeting of inflammatory cells. Non-coding RNAs represent attractive therapeutic targets and we have identified several ncRNAs that are associated with activation of ganglionic macrophages and glial cells during heart disease after extensive transcriptomic analyses. This project aims at the intraganglionic manipulation of these cell type-specific ncRNAs to test their therapeutic applicability for cardiac disease.
