We have succeeded in identifying the endothelial cell microproteome, including microproteins derived from lncRNAs (lnc-miPs). In this project we will characterize the coding and non-coding function of two endothelial cell lncRNAs, whose expression is altered in response to vascular inflammation. We will also determine the microproteome of contractile and secretory vascular smooth muscle cells from patients with vascular disease and study the impact of interfering with the expression of novel vascular smooth muscle cell lnc-miPs in monoculture and an artery-on-a-chip model.
