Recently, we have detected strong magnetic texturing effects of thin Fe and Ni films induced during low-temperature ion irradiations. The investigations proposed here concentrate on understanding the magnetization of these ferromagnetic films (Fe, Ni, permalloy) irradiated by ions differing in their mass (Xe, Ar, He), energy and fluence. For analyzing the magnetic and crystallographic texturing effects, we will use hyperfine methods such as PAC with implanted 111In tracers and Conversion Electron Mössbauer Spectroscopy (CEMS, in the case of Fe and iron based materials, also with implanted 57Co), ion analytical methods such as RBS channeling, as well as MOKE and X-ray diffraction (XRD). In particular, we shall study the dependence of the magnetic texture on the parameters of the ion beam, on the grain structure and thickness of the as-deposited samples, the external magnetic field during implantation and the stress before and after the ion irradiations.
