Within this proposed project we would like to realize a novel system for controlled experiments in cavity quantum electrodynamics (CQED).We intend to use a toroidal microresonator as cavity and single defect centers in nano diamonds as quantum emitters. In order to realize a well controllable configuration we will use scanning probe techniques to position individual nano diamonds within the maximum field of whispering-gallery modes supported by the toroid. Light is coupled in and out of individual modes with the use of a tapered fiber coupler with high efficiency, and confocal excitation of individual nano diamonds is used. Temperature tuning of the cavity and DC Stark tuning of the defect centers will be implemented. We will investigate the weak as well as the strong coupling regime of CQED. For the first time we aim at controlled assembly of a CQED system with two quantum emitters.
