The research project A01 examines virtual objects and practices in the context of archival institutions. On the one hand, the object of investigation is digital cultural heritage projects that deal with the archiving of material cultural assets („virtual cultural heritage“) implemented using image technology. On the other hand, the research project examines museum collections that are made accessible as virtual image archive spaces. In addition to the question of the conservation and archival potential of the virtual and the archivability of virtuality in principle, the research project focuses in particular on the relationship between virtuality and visuality.
