cataloging and partial digitization of the Marienbibliothek Halle

Term since 2021
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 458285611

The Marienbibliothek, founded in 1560, is one of the largest church libraries in Germany. The aim of this project is to catalog the historical centre of the library, the so-called Corpus bibliothecae. Besides, the indexing of smaller libraries from Saxony-Anhalt included in the Marienbibliothek will take place. During the course of the project 11.700 resources from 15th to 17th century will be catalogued and verified in the national bibliographical catalogs GW, VD16 and VD17. This will be conducted in the K10plus union catalog. Additionally, about 1.500 resources are to be digitized, including the incunabula, all 16th and 17th century prints currently missing in the VD16 and VD17 or not yet digitized, and particularly outstanding highlights like the translation of the New Testament by Martin Luther of 1522 (Septembertestament) with abundant annotations of Felicitas von Selmenitz or the german bible of 1478 from the property of Hans Plock. The digitization will be conducted in accordance with the standards set by the German Research Foundation DFG. The digitized copies will be displayed on the web using the digitization platform of University and Regional Library of Saxony-Anhalt (Halle).
