Subject Area
Musicology
Term
since 2021
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 438577023
The project investigates evaluations of popular music of the 1950s and 60s in relation to at-tempts at regulation (from pedagogy, politics, religion, etc.) as well as to markers of identity (gender, race, class, age, ethnicity and nationality) by means of situational analyses of discursive and audiovisual sources as well as interviews with contemporary witnesses. In a comparative approach, two parallel work packages focus on German Schlager and West African Highlife music, which are compared with each other in a third area.
