Design and analysis of an adaptive kinetic envelope to optimize the lighting conditions and reduce the solar gain in the urban envi-ronment (A07)

Subject Area Structural Engineering, Building Informatics and Construction Operation
Term since 2021
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 279064222

Project Description

The aim of the project is to develop an adaptive kinetic envelope that contributes both to increasing the user’s comfort and to reduc-ing or completely preventing undesired solar heat input into the urban environment. The synergetic architectural and engineering approach is based on the interoperability of the adaptive envelope system and its ability to reconfigure its geometry and physical properties in real-time. The development and the verification of the functionality will be investigated in A07 through the use of simu-lations, 1:5 scale models, and experimental prototype tests of scale 1:1. In addition, one floor of the high-rise is to be equipped with the proposed adaptive envelope.
