Project Details
From prediction to validation: Mechanical factors of impaired fracture healing in humans (P06)
Subject Area
Medical Informatics and Medical Bioinformatics
Term
since 2021
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 427826188
This project will focus on quantifying patient-specific bone loading and finding ways to optimize the mechanical conditions at the fracture by means of fixation configuration, adapted rehabilitation, and gait modification. The project will link the CRC to human patients by employing retrospective data from the successfully completed BioBone study and validate the findings about the mechanical environment with prospective measurements. The project will also investigate the potential use of advanced imaging techniques (e.g., dynamic bi-planar fluoroscopy, EOS-system) for evaluating the specific mechanical environment in the clinical routine. This will enable a comprehensive improvement of fracture treatment by providing the mechanical prerequisite for the biological mechanism of healing.
