Western diet and lifestyle contribute to the development of a chronic, systemic low-grade inflammation with ageing, which plays an important role in the development of age-related diseases. However, there is a large interindividual variety in response patterns. Leveraging the large, deeply-phenotyped Rhineland Study cohort, we will investigate the impact of the genome and the exposome on chronic systemic inflammation and immune status in the general adult population. Moreover, in collaborative projects across the CRC, we will use the same cohort for bi-directional translational research between murine and human studies.
