Macrophages are import mediators of low-level inflammation associated with metabolic diseases. During metaflammation, proinflammatory cytokines and mediators act on tissue-resident macrophages and recruited monocytes resulting in transcriptional reprogramming towards a pro-inflammatory state. This project aims to understand the programming of macrophages in metaflammation in visceral adipose tissue (VAT) on the single-cell level to identify transcription factors responsible for pro-inflammatory differentiation of VAT macrophages which could potentially serve as future therapeutic targets to limit metaflammation.
