This project aims at identifying the physiologically significant myeloid populations, that respond to excess dietary salt (NaCl) in the skin. We will identify the underlying cellular dynamics and molecular mechanisms using flow cytometry, imaging, and transcriptomic analyses. Furthermore, we will analyse salt-modulated pathways in macrophages, which affect their ‘metaflammatory’ differentiation, their migratory dynamics and localization in the organ, as well as the triggering of hypersensitive reactions of the skin.
