We could show that elevated sodium levels perturb macrophage migration, phagocytosis, and efferocytosis. However, the precise signalling pathways influenced by sodium intake and the resulting impact on macrophage functions and overall organismal health remain elusive. We now aim to investigate the effects of high-salt diet (HSD) on organ-specific immunity, focusing on the gut-liver axis.
