Project Details
Shaping neuronal engram ensembles through excitation-transcription coupling (A02)
Subject Area
Molecular Biology and Physiology of Neurons and Glial Cells
Term
since 2021
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 425899996
In this project, we are investigating how transport of macromolecular protein complexes from synapse to nucleus regulate CREB-dependent gene expression and how this regulation relates to memory allocation and memory consolidation. We propose to harness excitation-transcription coupling via CREB as a neural resource to enhance memory formation. To this end, we will investigate how one can employ the signaling principles of the synapto-nuclear protein messenger Jacob as reserve to optimize neuronal engram ensemble formation in ageing and Alzheimer's disease.
