The envisaged project analyses Ottoman-Russian mental entanglements by comparing two reports which have been written by two war captives. On the one hand, we have the text of Pavel A. Levašev (d. 1820), a Russian diplomat, translator and publicist, on the other hand, we will deal with the report of Necati Efendi (d. after 1776), a secretary to the Ottoman Supreme Commander of the Crimea Silahdar Ibrahim Pasha during the war with Russia (from 1768 to 1774). Both of them were taken in captivity during the military conflict for years. Pavel Levašev as well as Necati Efendi wrote kind of memoirs about their years in custody.
