Integral coupled simulation of fluid dynamics of the metal cutting fluid and the cutting process in vibrationn assisted drilling - ViBohr

Subject Area Metal-Cutting and Abrasive Manufacturing Engineering
Term since 2020
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 439950037

The objective of the ViBohr sub-project within the Priority Programme (SPP) 2231 FluSimPro is to achieve process optimisation by means of a coupled ViBohr process simulation model on the basis of a fundamental understanding of the effect of the MQL flow and the wetting behaviour on the chip formation and chip transport mechanisms as well as the associated heat transport during vibration-assisted drilling. In accordance with the structuring of the SPP over its entire duration, the focal points of the project applied for here are structured as follows:- Phase 1: Model development and validation of the various process stages (model modules).- Phase 2: Model coupling and integral simulation - Phase 3: System and process optimisation of vibration-assisted drilling. The objective of the proposed project (ViBohr) in the second phase of the SPP is to couple the simulation approaches from the first phase for the essential areas of MQL flow and wetting behaviour with chip formation. On this basis, a deeper understanding of the influence of MQL flow and MQL wetting on the physical mechanisms in chip formation and chip evacuation is expected, which is necessary for tool and process optimisation. A direct or indirect coupling of the individual simulation approaches is to be carried out on the basis of the essential mechanisms of action of the MQL: Lubrication - Cooling - Chip transport.
