In the first funding phase, the investigation of creative appropriation and cultural hybridity in premodern architecture and painting north of the Alps has repeatedly touched upon processes, practices and media of premodern and modern canon formation. Now the underlying structures and methods of normative procedures will be systematically explored in a diachronic and interdisciplinary perspective along the lines of the praxeological model of the CRC. To this end, premodern elements of architecture, paintings and graphics will be analysed together with their contemporary and modern history of reception and research. Project C02 thus strives to contribute to the selective revision of a traditional understanding of aesthetics resulting from still-powerful canons in the humanities and their mechanisms of evaluation.
