Project Details
Deposition of iron-containing intermetallic phases from aluminum alloys by filtration (T03*)
Subject Area
Metallurgical, Thermal and Thermomechanical Treatment of Materials
Term
from 2019 to 2022
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 169148856
Together with the Nemak Dillingen GmbH the development of a two-stage technology to remove iron from secondary aluminum alloys is the central aspect of the project. High-iron-containing intermetallic particles are intentionally generated by means of a melt conditioning and are removed from the melt in a subsequent filtration step. In cooperation with a subproject, the influence of standard-conforming alloy deviations on the formation and dissolution behavior of intermetallic compounds under practice-relevant melting conditions is investigated and optimized melt conditioning parameters are derived. In addition, the development and testing of a suitable filter technology for integration into the production process of the industrial partner takes place. In a comprehensive industrial test the effectiveness of the filtration technology will be verified.
