Within the framework of this project, we will study in detail generation and amplification of coherent propagating spin waves in magnetic nanostructures by spin-orbit torque. We will consider different approaches to achieve efficient tunable generation of spin waves and short spin-wave packets with controllable frequency and the wavelength, in nano-systems based on both conductive and insulating magnetic materials. We will also study the possibilities to overcome limitations imposed by the scattering of coherent spin waves from incoherent spin-torque enhanced magnons and achieve true amplification of propagating spin waves by the spin-orbit torque. Finally, we will study complex systems, where active spin-orbit torque devices interact with each other via the exchange of amplified spin waves. The proposed investigations will contribute to the deeper understanding of the effects of spin-orbit torque on the magnetization dynamics and are expected to spur significant advances in spin-orbit torque magnonics.
