Project Details
Mechanisms of Nfe2l1-linked inflammation and atherogenesis (B10)
Subject Area
Endocrinology, Diabetology, Metabolism
Term
since 2019
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 238187445
Atherosclerosis and obesity are chronic inflammatory, metabolic disorders, in which aberrant metabolism is linked to the activation of the immune system and inflammation of the tissue. In this project, our objective is to identify mechanisms that link diet, obesity, and atherosclerosis through the cholesterol sensing transcription factor nuclear factor erythroid-2, like-1 (Nfe2l1) in adipocytes. By studying cultured adipocytes, preclinical transgenic mouse models, as well as implement short-wave infrared (SWIR) imaging, we will define the translational significance of Nfe2l1 for adipose inflammation and atherosclerosis.
