Age and significance of early Archaean high-grade metamorphism in the Central Zone of the Limpopo Belt, South Africa, and its tectonic interpretation.

Subject Area Mineralogy, Petrology and Geochemistry
Term from 2018 to 2024
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 407402474

Field investigations of an Archaean granulite-facies supracrustal assemblage on the farm Klein Bolayi and environs, Central Zone of the Limpopo Belt, South Africa, followed by zircon dating, petrological characterization as well as Hf-in-zircon isotopic characteristics with the aim to establish the age, petrogenesis, protolith identification and metamorphic evolution of these rocks The overall purpose is to elucidate the previously ill-defined ca. 3.2 Ga early Archaean metamorphic history of the Central Zone and its tectonic significance.
