Abnormal cytosolic calcium buffering and its role in atrial arrhythmogenesis in patients with heart failure (HF) (A13)

Subject Area Cell Biology
Term from 2018 to 2024
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 193793266

Project Description

In A13, we will investigate Ca2+-buffering properties in freshly isolated atrial myocytes from patients with and without HF. In addition, using atrial-like engineered heart tissue constructs and mouse models with Ca2+-sensitizing mutations of contractile proteins, A13 will determine whether impaired Ca2+ buffering contributes to atrial arrhythmogenesis. The results will provide novel insights into the molecular pathophysiology of AF in HF patients and are expected to foster the development of novel and more tailored therapeutic strategies.
