The project researches the mutual practices of disparagement between adherents of the Reformation and the Roman church from the beginning of the Reformation to the end of the 16th century. The focus of the analyses is on the disputes regarding saints and legends as well as the mutual degradation as ‘turks’. The methodological approach of the project is to investigate the interrelations between the processes of degradation and upgrading, as well as the related practices of othering, which can be referred to both as the ’foreign’ and the previously ‘own’.
