Project A11 will investigate commonalities and differences in behavioral and neural mechanisms of acquisition, extinction and reinstatement for cues predicting pain relief (appetitive learning) and cues predicting pain increase (aversive learning) in chronic back pain patients and healthy controls. Further we will test, whether prior knowledge about US-CS contingencies alters extinction dynamics and the reinstatement-induced return of conditioned responses differentially for appetitive and aversive US-CS associations.
